Why convert AVIF to JPG
AVIF is one of the newest image formats, and its main strength is size. It can store a photo at a fraction of the space a JPG would need, which is why websites have started using it. The catch is reach. As of 2026 most modern browsers can decode AVIF, but plenty of desktop apps, photo printers, and older programs still cannot open it. If you send an AVIF to someone and they double click it on an older Windows machine, there is a good chance it simply will not load. Converting to JPG removes that worry, because JPG has been a universal standard for decades and works in every viewer, editor, and upload form you are likely to meet.
There are two things worth knowing before you convert. First, JPG cannot store transparency, so if your AVIF has see through areas, those parts are filled with solid white. If keeping transparency matters, pick PNG instead. Second, both AVIF and JPG are lossy formats, so the goal is a clean copy rather than a perfect match. Setting the quality slider to 85 or 90 keeps the result sharp for ordinary photos while keeping the file reasonable. The JPG will almost always be bigger than the original AVIF, and that is the normal price of wide compatibility. When you need something that opens anywhere without fuss, JPG is the dependable choice.
