How each photo is fitted
Every photo goes into a square cell of 600 by 600 pixels and is scaled to fill it completely, then cropped from the centre. That keeps the grid perfectly even whatever mix of portrait and landscape photos you drop in.
The trade off is that the edges of each photo may be trimmed. A face near the edge of a wide photo can be partly cut off. If that happens, crop the photo first with the subject in the middle, using the 1:1 ratio in the crop tool, then add it here.
How big the finished collage is
The gap you choose is added between and around the cells. The collage downloads as a PNG at that full size, so it stays sharp when a platform scales it down.
Choosing a layout for your number of photos
An even grid looks best when the photos fill every row. Four photos sit well in two columns, six and nine in three, eight in four. If the count leaves a gap in the last row, either add a photo or choose a column count that divides evenly.
