Why convert HEIC to PNG

Since iOS 11, iPhones have saved photos as HEIC by default. The reason is space: HEIC packs the same picture into a much smaller file than JPG, so you can keep thousands more photos on the same phone. That is a nice win until you move a photo somewhere else.
